Faith Formation
CATECHESISWe have started our faith formation classes for our children in 2007, well before the establishment of our Eparchy on 25th March 2014. Now we have regular faith formation classes on every Sunday at two centres, Ardeer and Laverton. Currently, we have 210 children from Prep to Grade 10 and 35 volunteer catechists (teachers) altogether from the two centres. We are following the same text of the Syro-Malabar Catechetical Commission called “On the Path of Salvation” series from Grade 1-10, the “Basic Christian Prayers” text and a Sunday School Diary at both centres.
We are conducting a Half yearly and a Final Exam to make the faith formation classes more organised and systematic. We are also conducting various competitions for children on Bible Quiz, Essay writing based on Bible themes, Bible Reading, Bible Story Telling, Devotional Songs and Speech on Bible themes/verses to encourage the children to grow closer to God and deepen their spiritual lives through Bible study. We are preparing children for the First Holy Communion and giving training for the altar servers where children are actively participating. Also, we have a children’s choir group who are singing for the Malayalam Mass.
Catechesis – teaching the faith – is an essential work of the Church and assisting parents in their responsibility to educate their children in the Catholic faith. Beginning in the home and permeating parish life, catechesis attempts to echo the faith in the liturgy, sacraments, words and works. Catechesis is an education to the children, youth & adults to develop their faith in an organic & systematic way, with a view to lead them to the fullness of Christian life. Faith formation of children is one of the most important priorities and it is the collective responsibility of our community.
