The Formation of SMYM Melbourne West

The SMYM Melbourne West leadership team was formed during the SMYM Youth Leaders’ Summit. Having come together at the summit, we worked collaboratively to establish our team and take on respective leadership roles. Inspired by the experience and formation we received at the camp, we returned to Melbourne West with a shared vision and commitment to serve our parish youth. Since then, we have continued to work together actively, encouraging young people to grow in faith, fellowship, and service.

On the first Saturday of June, our small group from Melbourne West, with the guidance and support of three wonderful leaders from SMYM North, had the opportunity to celebrate our first youth-led English Mass.

As we were still becoming familiar with the liturgy and the responsibilities involved, it was a valuable opportunity to learn and gain the confidence to lead future celebrations ourselves. By God’s grace, everything went smoothly on the day, even with just one practice session together.

Although we are still learning and growing as a team, we look forward to leading English Masses every second Saturday, followed by Bible study and discussions. Through these gatherings, we hope to deepen our faith, strengthen our fellowship, and encourage more young people to actively participate in the life of our Church.
