Faith Formation & Catechesis

Catechesis—the teaching of the faith—is an essential mission of the Church. It supports parents in their responsibility to nurture and educate their children in the Catholic faith. Beginning in the home and extending into parish life, catechesis seeks to deepen faith through the liturgy, sacraments, Scripture, prayer, and Christian living. It is a lifelong process of systematic and organic faith formation for children, youth, and adults, guiding them towards the fullness of Christian life.

Faith formation of children is one of our parish’s highest priorities and a shared responsibility of the entire community. Our faith formation programme began in 2007, well before the establishment of our Eparchy on 25 March 2014. Today, regular faith formation classes are conducted every Sunday at our church, with 350 children from Prep to Grade 12, supported by 35 dedicated volunteer catechists.

We follow the Syro-Malabar Catechetical Commission’s “On the Path of Salvation” series from Grades 1–10, together with the “Basic Christian Prayers” text and the Sunday School Diary. To ensure a structured and effective programme, we conduct half-yearly and final examinations to assess and encourage the children’s progress in faith formation.

Beyond classroom learning, we organise a range of activities and competitions, including Bible quizzes, Bible-themed essay writing, Bible reading, Bible storytelling, devotional singing, and speeches based on Scripture and faith themes. These activities encourage children to engage more deeply with the Word of God, strengthen their knowledge of the faith, and grow in their relationship with God.

We also prepare children for their First Holy Communion and provide training for altar servers, enabling them to participate actively in the liturgical life of the Church. Our children’s choir regularly supports and leads the singing during Malayalam Holy Mass, giving young people opportunities to express their faith through music, worship, and service.

Through these initiatives, our parish strives to nurture a generation of children who are rooted in faith, grounded in Christian values, and actively engaged in the life and mission of the Church.
