Our Vision & Mission

Welcome to Our Parish

St Mary’s Syro-Malabar Parish Melbourne West is a vibrant Catholic community rooted in faith, tradition, and fellowship. Inspired by the teachings and example of Jesus Christ, we strive to create a welcoming home where individuals and families can grow spiritually, strengthen their faith, and support one another in love and service.

Our Vision

“That every person’s heart be inflamed with the love of God.”

Guided by this vision, we seek to nurture a faith-filled community where God’s love is experienced, shared, and lived every day. Through prayer, the sacraments, faith formation, and compassionate service, we aim to strengthen families, inspire future generations, and share the richness of our Syro-Malabar Catholic heritage with the wider community.

Catechesis

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:14

The Syro-Malabar Church lives out Christ’s mission through intentional faith formation and catechesis. Derived from the Greek katechein—to “resound from above” or “instruct orally”—catechesis is fundamentally about echoing Christ's voice and teachings in our daily lives.

According to the Syro-Malabar Catechetical Directory (#45), it is an ecclesial ministry that guides both the baptized and catechumens through systematic instruction toward spiritual maturity and the fullness of Christian life.

This journey takes shape through an integral, three-fold framework:

  • Celebration: Encountering faith in the Sacred Mysteries and liturgical life.

  • Instruction: Deepening understanding of Scripture and Church doctrine.

  • Apprenticeship: Putting faith into action through mentorship and Christian living.
